A Second Mistrial In University of Cincinnati Officer Prosecution

"I'm here to share solidarity with the family of Sam DuBose, and the family of all these people who are being gunned down by police officers with impunity".

Friday's mistrial came after more than 30 hours of deliberations, which started on Monday.

This is the third time in the past week that a U.S. police officer has been tried for shooting a black man without being convicted. This comes after a mistrial was also declared when the case was initially brought to court previous year.

There were more than a dozen demonstrators outside the courthouse with rain coming down Friday afternoon, some chanting: "Black lives matter!"

The local NAACP chapter says the case is another example that a police officer can "get away with murder" if the victim is black.

DuBose's shooting followed a traffic encounter between a police officer and 28-year-old Sandra Bland in Waller County, Texas, which had taken place roughly a week earlier.

Mourners Remember Otto Warmbier At Hometown Funeral
Security Council resolutions and push for dialogue and negotiation, which has always been China's position on the issue. About 2,000 people packed into a school for Otto Warmbier's funeral Thursday in Wyoming, near Cincinnati.

Mayor John Cranley, at a news conference, expressed his condolences to the DuBose family and the right of residents to protest peacefully.

Former University of Cincinnati officer Ray Tensing shot the 43-year-old DuBose after pulling him over for a missing front license plate July 19, 2015.

Case with the same overtones of racial discrimination as other recent police shootings ends in mistrial for second time.

The family of the unarmed black motorist who died after he was shot by a white OH police officer in a traffic stop is demanding a third trial.

"The family commends the prosecutors for their strong presentation in this case, but we are outraged that a second jury has now failed to convict Ray Tensing for the murder of our beloved Sam DuBose", the family said in a statement obtained by WCPO.

She called on the Cincinnati community to join them in "peaceful protest" of what she called an "unjust result".

To convict Tensing of murder, jurors had to find he purposely killed DuBose.

Prosecutors will have to decide whether to try Tensing for a third time.

The shooting is among those across the nation that have raised attention to how police deal with blacks. Minnesota officer Jeronimo Yanez was found not guilty last Friday in the killing of Philando Castile.

Ghiz told the jurors, "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to send you back for a little while longer", before then reading a charge encouraging them to reconsider their positions and listen to one another as they deliberated. After a second attempt requested by the judge, the jury was still deadlocked. On Wednesday, a white officer shot an off-duty black colleague in the city of St. Louis - known for its proximity to Ferguson, where white officer Darren Wilson killed unarmed black teen Michael Brown - when he attempted to assist with an arrest. Tensing was in tears during both trials as he testified he feared he could be dragged or run over by the vehicle. He was charged with murder and voluntary manslaughter. Tensing has said in both trials that he feared for his life during the traffic stop.

Taylor said this deadlocked jury, combined with the acquittal of police officers in Milwaukee and Minneapolis in similar cases this week, demonstrates institutional racism in the justice system. They've deliberated almost 26 hours, compared to 25 hours over four days before a November mistrial was declared. The question wasn't made public. He told the court his arm was still inside the vehicle and claimed DuBose "dragged" him with his vehicle.
