Justices to review New Jersey bid for legal sports betting

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday said it will hear arguments in New Jersey's pursuit to legalize sports gambling at casinos and racetracks. But the SG's office ultimately recommended that the Supreme Court not hear the appeal.

According to NorthJersey.com, the decision overruled the opinion of the U.S. Solicitor General, which said the high court should not take on the case.

The justices will review a federal appeals court's ruling a year ago that the 2014 New Jersey statute permitting sports betting at casinos and racetracks violated a 1992 federal law that prohibits such gambling in all states except Nevada, Delaware, Montana and Oregon. Currently, sports betting is only allowed in Nevada. "PASPA is a failed law, and now is the time for all parties, including the sports leagues, to come together and replace it with a regulatory framework that will bring sports betting out of the shadows and into the sunlight, creating well over 100,000 jobs and raising billions in tax revenue".

Woman tried to open emergency exit door on flight
Corpus Christi Airport Police told Houston's KTRK-TV that the FBI is investigating the situation. The incident happened on Southwest flight 4519 which was headed from Los Angeles to William P.

Gov. Chris Christie has been fighting the law. (For example, this is where I would expect to see the equal sovereignty argument-e.g., the preferential treatment given to Nevada and three other states, to the exclusion of the other 46 states-play a more important role going forward).

In November 2011, New Jersey voters passed a statewide referendum by almost a 2-1 margin in support of legal sports betting throughout the state.

Still, it's just one step for New Jersey, which still has to convince the court that it is on the right side of the law.

New Jersey has already beaten the odds - the Supreme Court historically has granted appeal review in only about two percent of cases.

Green's scoring was the lowest it has been in the past three seasons, but his total impact probably hasn't ever been higher. He becomes the first Warriors executive to claim the honor twice, previously winning following the 2014-15 season.

"The fact that the Supreme Court granted cert in this case is a very good sign for sports betting having a future in New Jersey", he said. If this Colorado case will prosper, it could affect 22 other states that have the same cases regarding producing products or rendering services for same-sex couples, The Washington Post reported.

The NFL, meanwhile, still opposes legal sports wagering. The NFL and National Hockey League are in Las Vegas now, after all - something that would have been unthinkable five years ago. Frank Pallone (D) introduced legislation in Congress that would repeal PASPA and legalize sports gambling nationwide.

"Long time coming, today's SCOTUS announcement is welcome news to South Jersey residents who overwhelming voted to allow sports-betting", he wrote on Twitter. "Rather than continuing to allow criminal and offshore entities to reap the benefits of illegal gaming, there is now an opportunity for the Supreme Court to allow the democratic process in New Jersey to appropriately regulate sports gaming".
