Fired engineer James Damore: Google is 'almost like a cult' (GOOG)

Memegen, an internal forum that uses images overlaid with amusing captions, was filled with irreverent posts that openly mocked how an email discussing the memo from Sundar Pichai, Google's chief executive, had leaked to the media so quickly. Brown locked her account this week after being inundated with hateful tweets for her critical response to an engineer's controversial memo attacking Google's diversity efforts.

Jordan Bernt Peterson, a Canadian clinical psychologist, and professor of psychology at the University of Toronto posted on his Twitter page a lengthy interview with James Damore, putting everything the fired employee said in context.

Google on Thursday abruptly canceled a town hall meeting to address the fallout from an anti-diversity memo, but CEO Sundar Pichai made his feelings on the matter known Thursday night at an event honoring girl coders from around the world. What did he think the reaction would be to his point about there being biological differences between men and women that contribute to the lack of female engineers at the company? In the meantime, the fired Google employee has been thrust into the spotlight and gained several job offers. It went viral throughout Google and last week it leaked to the press.

Trump says "military option" possible in Venezuela
According to Suarez, the USA military option in Venezuela could be carried out under the pretext of a "humanitarian intervention". President Trump on Friday refused to rule out a US military intervention in Venezuela , where civil strife has turned violent.

"We had hoped to have a frank open discussion today as we always do to bring us together and move forward".

"Googlers are writing in, concerned about their safety and anxious they may be "outed" publicly for asking a question in the Town Hall", said Google CEO Sundar Pichai. "For many, including myself, working at Google is a major part of their identity, nearly "like a cult" with its own leaders and saints, all believed to righteously uphold the sacred motto of "Don't be evil", the former-Google employee wrote.

Damore has emerged as a hero of conservative media. Critics of Damore's firing are planning to protest outside Google offices in five USA cities. The engineer has claimed he had a right to voice concerns over workplace conditions and filed a labor relations board complaint prior to being fired. The possible lawsuit will reportedly build on the US Department of Labor's probe into allegations of Google systematically underpaying its female staff.

NASA announces television coverage for August 21 solar eclipse
If the skies do not cooperate for us here, try a livestream of the eclipse from https://www. nasa .gov/eclipselive for example. They wrote, "It has been almost 100 years since a total eclipse has moved from coast to coast across the #United States".

Google's liberal stance toward self-expression, enabled by those online forums, was created in part to show that it is not bound by the conventions that stifle more stodgy companies. And some are anxious that you can not speak out at work freely.

Damore asserted in his 3,000-word document that circulated inside the company last week that "Google's left bias has created a politically correct monoculture" which prevented honest discussion of diversity.

Another echoed Damore's criticisms: "I am a moderately conservative Googler, and I am and have been scared to share my beliefs. What is leadership doing to ensure Googlers like me feel *invited and accepted*, not just tolerated or safe from angry mobs?"

Young players in spotlight as Phillies host Mets
Conforto stayed hot and blew the game open in the seventh with an opposite-field, three-run homer off the foul pole in left. Mets starter Seth Lugo gave up five runs and eight hits, striking out a career-best eight in 51/3 innings.
