It looks like Multiplayer Might Finally Come to No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky Atlas Rises update 1.3

No Man's Sky Atlas Rises update 1.3

Hello Games have detailed the big Atlas Rising update coming to No Man's Sky this week and it brings with it the addition of multiplayer... kind of.

From what we saw, Update 1.3, otherwise known as Atlas Rises, will feature an "overhauled central story line, portals, a new procedural mission system, trade improvements, system economies, joint exploration and more". Up to 16 orbs can appear at one time and you can even communicate with each other via voice chat. Despite that, they were not actually able to interact in any way or even see each other. It will also bring in the ability to quickly travel in between places using portals. While it is limited, currently, it looks like these are the first steps to adding in full multiplayer is in the works for No Man's Sky.

Remember that planet you earmarked as "New Earth" way back when No Man's Sky first came out?

Spain on course to surpass Greece as European Union migration destination
More than 11,000 migrants have made their way to Spain in the first half of 2017, more than 8,300 of whom arrived by boat. Three times as many migrants have arrived so far in 2017 as the amount who had arrived in the same period a year ago .

Hello Games is promising "double the lore and interactions of the existing game"; presumably, the new alien race will provide much of that. According to Hello Games, the new story content will take about 30 hours to complete.

Say what you will about the state No Man's Sky launched in, and what the developers had said about it before it launched, but there's no denying that Hello Games has been surprisingly committed to the game. There are also newly structured missions that offer subtle tasks the player can opt to perform, such as combat missions, delivery missions, and shipwreck salvage projects.

You've become part of the No Man's Sky origin story. There are also procedurally-generated missions and a form of multiplayer called Joint Exploration, where other players are represented as floating orbs. If you have the terraforming add-on, you can shoot at the ground using your multi tool and add or destroy terrain.

At this point it seems rather clear that No Man's Sky was released about two years too early. Update 1.3, releasing today, is our biggest to date and will be available for free to all No Man's Sky players. Biomes have been made more diverse as well, so that you'll see a lot of variety on planets.

Players will be able to encounter "ghost/glitch" versions of other players, with a cool visualisation. You can improve your standing with multiple NPC guilds to receive more challenging missions. Read Hello Games' full patch notes for all the details.
