New Charges Filed in Fatal Shooting of Police Officer. Charged is William Grant Noble of Clinton

Michael, 37, was shot during a traffic stop about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, near Highway 13 and Green Street in Clinton. The rife meets the description of the weapon used in the murder of Officer Gary Michael. Prosecutors say McCarthy jumped out of his vehicle and fired at the officer before driving a few blocks, crashing the auto and fleeing on foot.

The charge alleges that Noble threw the rifle used in the murder of Officer Michael into a body of water North of Clinton, knowing that it had been used in the crime and with the intent to hide it from investigators. "I asked him why he was fake crying and he said he had sold the firearm to McCarthy". He said he did so because McCarthy was from out of state. As a convicted felon, McCarthy could not legally own a firearm. Additional charges brought against McCarthy during his time in New Hampshire include robberies, simple assault, negligent driving and driving after revocation or suspension.

An active warrant was also issued for his arrest in 2011 on charges of being a felon in possession of a unsafe weapon, reckless conduct and disorderly conduct.

McCarthy's landlord, Ed Hannah, told The Kansas City Star that McCarthy lived on $2,000 a month from a trust fund set up by his grandfather, who is deceased. Hannah called McCarthy an "odd duck". After McCarthy fell behind on his rent about a year and half ago, Hannah arranged to be paid directly by the trust fund managers and never saw McCarthy again.

Neighbors said they generally saw McCarthy only when he let his two dogs outside.
