"If you strip away what's going on in North Korea, and if you strip away what's going on in Washington, which are things that are tougher to predict, the economy, the global recovery, earnings, it all paints a very positive picture for the rest of the year", Kravetz said. "But we're in a low inflationary environment, which can help valuations remain elevated for longer than they would otherwise".

In terms of forex market movements, the U.S. currency lost significant ground relative to majors including the yen, sterling and the euro - most notably the latter one - as the news on inflation went public. The expanded index S&P 500 rose 0.1 % to 2441,32 points.

Heightened tensions between North Korea and the U.S. are negative factors in the local stock markets that could drag down the index, Cape Investment & Securities said in a report.

The euro slid 0.6 percent to 128.92 yen, and fell 0.2 percent against the dollar to $1.1732.

The dollar was further weighed down on Friday by the soft USA inflation data.

Benchmark U.S. 10-year notes last rose 6/32 in price to yield 2.1905 percent, from 2.211 percent late on Thursday.

US DATA: The other potential driver in markets will be upcoming USA economic data, including monthly inflation figures, which could go a long way to determining expectations for the pace at which the Federal Reserve raises interest rates.

After touching a more than two-month high at $1,291.86, spot gold last added 0.2 percent to $1,288.81 an ounce.
