Sally Pearson en route to securing a berth in the women s 100m hurdles in London

After injury denied Pearson of the opportunity to defend her Olympic crown past year in Rio, she made a decision to coach herself.

Sally Pearson experienced a host of emotions as she flashed across the finish line in London to claim her sweetest victory.

"I've worked so hard, I don't know what has just happened out there. I'm so exhausted but I'm sure it will sink in soon", Pearson said. Doctors described the injury as a "bone explosion".

"It's been a long journey back from injury, but to get this moment and go and celebrate in front of my family is unreal".

It was a third major 100m hurdles title for Pearson, who had previously won gold at the 2011 world championships in Daegu and the 2012 London Olympics. She then had two coaches for brief periods before deciding in August previous year - on the first day of the athletics at the Rio Olympics - to coach herself.

The former Olympic champion from Australia missed much of the past two seasons because of injury, but she produced the fastest time tin the semi-finals.

Marshawn Lynch Sits Through National Anthem At Raiders Preseason Game
Lynch was gone from the locker room by the time reporters arrived. "You do your thing". "So, it's a non-issue for me". I missed a long one to Jaron (Brown ) and wanted to kind of redeem myself. "I've got to wait until next week".

"I knew that I could (coach myself), I wasn't anxious about writing the program out, I knew what I could and couldn't handle, it was just a matter of "am I going to do it right?"

Pearson looked tense and focused before the race, not acknowledging the crowd when her name was called, but was hugely impressive quickly overhauling early leader Jamaican champion Megan Simmonds and opening a sizeable lead.

"She is the first person to do that", he said of her comeback victory.

"At the end, I could see Sally had won and I thought 'it's me and Sally again (like in Beijing in 2008)'".

'I never doubted (the self-coaching) - she knows her body, she has been doing it more than long enough.

"She has got the determination that whatever she sets her mind to she is going to do it and she is going to do it properly".

Ahmed Hegazi dismisses matchwinning heroics for West Brom triumph
West Brom continued their dominance from set pieces in the second half as Claudio Yacob headed into the side-netting. New signing Ahmed Hegazi flourished as West Bromwich Albion made a winning start to their Premier League campaign.

She controlled the race from there, winning in 12.59 seconds ahead of long-time rival Dawn-Harper Nelson (12.63).

World record holder Kendra Harrison from the U.S. finished out of the medals in fourth place.

Pearson thanked her close inner-circle for getting her across the line.

In contrast to the experience of Pearson and Harper-Nelson, this is just Dutkiewicz's second senior medal, though the German will be confident heading into the European Championships in her home nation next year.

'They're the ones I have to thank tonight because I don't think I would be here without them. "If anyone sees Anne McLellan tell her to come down here so I can give her a hug!"

The Briton had won over 5000m and 10,000m at the past two IAAF World Championships and Olympic Games, but Ethiopia's Edris denied him gold with a time of 13 minutes and 32.79 seconds.

Mariners' lefty James Paxton leaves game with injury
The Seattle Mariners placed starting pitcher James Paxton on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left pectoral muscle. Erasmo Ramirez gave up just an unearned run on three hits over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision.

She joined 400m runner Cathy Freeman and 400m hurdler Jana Pittman as the only Australians to have won two world track and field titles.
