In Sarasota County, 23 percent of customers - 59,600 FPL customers and four cooperative customers - were waiting for power to be restored as of 9 a.m.

As South Florida continues to recover from the wrath of Hurricane Irma, a large percentage of Miami-Dade County homes and businesses still have power outages, though the figure is rapidly dropping.

Major utilities in Florida - including NextEra Energy Inc's Florida Power & Light, Duke Energy Corp and Emera Inc's Tampa Electric - have mobilized tens of thousands of workers to deal with the outages after Irma landed early Sunday and carved a destructive path up Florida, which has a population of about 20 million.

"The industry's Irma response is one of the largest power restoration efforts in US history", Kuhn said.

At its worst juncture, up to 16 million customers in the Southeast United States were without power, though the number of outages has been reduced significantly this week.

"We are working on a solution to get it back up as soon as possible", FPL spokesman Bill Orlove told the Sun Sentinel.

Trump tweeted earlier this month, vowing that the USA was considering ceasing trade with nations doing business with North Korea . It came on the heels of the adoption of a United Nations resolution imposing harsher sanctions against Pyongyang.

Because of mutual aid agreements with other power companies, FPL's 2,000 employees working to restore power have been joined by 21,500 men and women from 30 states and Canada, Orlove said.

The faster restoration time was due to $3 billion FPL spent on improvements including underground lines, concrete poles and intelligent devices to help restore power, Gould said. In Southwest Florida, where the damage is most extensive, restoration is more challenging and now estimated to be completed by September 22. In addition, with the hurricane carrying such high winds this time around, there are more downed trees and utility lines affecting power repairs.

"Power, power, power", Florida Gov. Rick Scott said recently. Blackouts hit wide areas in Georgia and SC - with more blows possible as the remains of Irma moved north. "But what's important for customers to know is that we know where the outages are within our system".

But, people can't help but joke and say they look like they would be a great couple". Nas is a best friend to her so as of now nothing is stirring up.

Meanwhile, roughly 6.4 million people in the state remained without power as of Wednesday afternoon, down from 13 million.

"We do appreciate the effort FPL made in being here in full force all week", Deputy Town Manager Jay Boodheshwar said. A Defense Department statement said an estimated 10,000 people who rode out the hurricane in the Keys could still face evacuation. "We expect to have all East Coast customers essentially restored by end of this coming weekend". "Hurricane Irma's devastating wrath was felt throughout the entire state - the storm uprooted trees, transformed roads into rivers, tore roofs off homes and businesses, and left millions of Floridians in the dark", said Silagy. They say many in their neighborhood were forced to throw away most of their frozen and colder food, a decision that's putting a dent in their wallets.
