The Dow Jones Industrial Average made it a grand slam for the year on Tuesday, as the world's most closely watched gauge for judging the strength of the US stock market hit 23,000 points for the first time.

"Good earnings news was already priced in to the stocks and the broader market", said Briefing.com analyst Patrick O'Hare.
