Facebook now lets you order food without leaving Facebook

Facebook is taking a cue from Amazon.com (AMZN), which recently announced a partnership with Olo, a provider of order and pay technology to thousands of USA locations.

The next phrase out of Mark Zuckerberg may be "You want fries with that?" as Facebook rolls out a feature that will allow you to order food from local restaurants.

Facebook has been developing a deeper relationship with food ordering businesses for some time. Back in August, it expanded its Marketplace service - which offers Craigslist-like ads for local sales - to seventeen new European countries, taking the total number of locations it's available in to 24. The company announced today that users in the United States can use the platform to order food for takeout and delivery.

The company said in a blog post that it has also signed on food ordering services such as EatStreet, Delivery.com, DoorDash and Olo.

Hungry customers will be shown a list of participating restaurants in their area, including national chains like Five Guys and Panera, and will be able to select whether they are ordering for pick-up or delivery.

Facebook has been working on the new product for a year, and carried out tests with restaurants including Papa John's (PZZA).

In the US, Facebook users can search and apply for jobs from within the social network's site or app, giving people yet another reason to head to the website. All Facebook is really doing here is launching an in-app browser so you can get a meal without ever leaving the app.
