Three people have been shot dead in Bondo town and several others injured as police clashed with protesters in Nasa's anti-IEBC protests.

On Thursday, the government banned demonstrations in the centers of the capital Nairobi, the port city of Mombasa and the western city of Kisumu, an opposition stronghold. In Kisumu city, local television showed running battles with stone-throwing youth.

He supported protesters' right to demonstrate, he said, but has so far stopped short of calling people onto the streets himself.

Sources told Xinhua that opposition supporters in informal settlements in Nairobi were grouping before they could march into the city.

The Supreme Court had annulled President Uhuru Kenyatta's win in the August election, after it found that the election commission had not followed the constitution and the electoral laws. Kenya's Supreme Court last month annulled the August election citing widespread irregularities in the counting process and mismanagement by election officials, and called for a re-run within 60 days. "All indications are that the election scheduled for 26 October will be worse than the previous one", he said, announcing his withdrawal Tuesday.

Odinga's withdrawal had fueled speculation about whether the vote would go ahead at all.

Opposition coalition Chief Executive Officer Norman Magaya said police have allowed government supporters into the banned protest areas and that they were attacking opposition supporters.

The Mombasa demonstrations were largely peaceful and were led by grassroots leaders to push for reforms required to enhance fairness and transparency in the electoral process.

But in an interview in London, Odinga told the AP he's willing to return if that changes.

Mr Odinga withdrew his participation in the re-run election because he said the electoral commission had refused to implement changes to correct the problems he blames for the bungled election.

11 de octubre de 2017, 14:50Nairobi, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) An unavoidable outbreak of street violence shook this capital today, when followers of opposition leader Raila Odinga, who boycotted the coming elections, went out to the streets, demanding reforms to the electoral law.

In a statement issued by Minister for Africa Rory Stewart on Friday, the United Kingdom government pointed out that the rushed amendments would bring unnecessary tension in the country.

Opposition legislator James Orengo said the law will lower safeguards against vote-rigging by making the preferred system of transmitting election results a manual one.

Many observers agreed the 2007 election was deeply flawed, and it triggered politically motivated tribal violence that left more than 1,100 dead.
