Your passport may no longer serve as proof of address.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday announced the discontinuation of the last page of the passport booklet which contained details such as the passport holder's father, mother, address etc, and replaced it with coloured jackets.

A MEA representative did not react to an email looking for input but rather Surendera Kumar, under-secretary of approach and lawful issues at the consular, travel permit and visa division of the service, affirmed that the change could happen when the "next series" of identifications is being issued. Since 2012, all passports have had a barcode, and by scanning this, the information can be accessed by immigration officials.

United States can not undermine Iran nuclear deal: Rouhani
He said he's waiving nuclear sanctions under the terms of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action upon advice from his advisers. Trump's declaration puts great pressure on Britain, France and Germany, the European signatories to nuclear pact with Iran.

Official Kumar said that the ECR category will be specified in the orange pssports. This will increase the speed of the process of emigration as the colour of the passport will make it clear whether the emigration check is required or not.

"One of the recommendations of the Committee was that the MEA should explore the possibility of doing away with the printing of information contained in the Passport Booklet such as names of father/legal guardian, mother, spouse, and address contained in the last page of the passport", Raveesh added. The ECR is at present stamped on the first two pages of the passport.

Besides, since the time of its conception, Indian passport has also been used as a valid address proof, which is accepted anywhere and everywhere, across the country.

No date has been given for the start of issuing of the new passports.

If the Ministry says yes to the plan, then the changes may be applicable from next series onwards and the current passports will remain valid, reported HT.

Nashik, would be designing the new passport booklets in due course. According to Indian Express, MEA is considering keeping the last page of the passport, which now contains many details of the holder including the address, blank.
