Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy stunned the golf world when he revealed he's been dealing with "an irregularity with my heart".

The 28-year-old from Northern Ireland, lacking only a victory at the Masters to complete a career Grand Slam, has bought the former home of South African four-time major victor Ernie Els at the nearby Bear's Club.

"I have a flat T-wave and I'll have to get an echo (cardiogram) on my heart every six months and an MRI scan every year". I don't feel I need to compare myself to anyone else, because I know what I can do. "Hey, I was planning on doing that anyway", McIlroy said.

"The rib's fine, no problems whatsoever - I had an MRI scan on my thoracic spine and all was OK", McIlroy said, after returning from yet another sun-lit practice session.

The interview was covered widely across other media, prompting the Northern Irish golfer to issue a response through his Instragram account.
