The Pakistan high commission alleged that the children were harassed and blocked by Indian authorities while they were on their way to the British School, according to a report in The Times of India. In the latest blow, Pakistan has released a video of a diplomat's vehicle being blocked - allegedly deliberately - by an exceptionally slow-moving auto on a main road in New Delhi. This chokes the traffic and drivers from other vehicles are seen asking those in the Maruti auto to speed up.

The Pakistani diplomat's auto was also followed by two men on a scooter. Indian diplomats posted in Islamabad, the Pakistani capital, alleged to Al Jazeera on Wednesday that they had been facing similar harassment for months.

Pakistani foreign office summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh to the foreign office in Islamabad on Tuesday night and lodged a protest over what it called the maltreatment being meted out to the officials and families of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. This followed similar incidents on March 7 and 8, the statement said.

The four notes verbales - diplomatic exchanges - allege as many as 18 incidents of "harassment and intimidation" of diplomats and their supporting staff. Pakistan also threatened to bring back its diplomats and their families if the harassment didn't stop. There was no official comment from the Ministry of External Affairs. Giving details of previous incidents, the spokesperson said, "The protest lodged by our High Commissioner with the Indian Foreign Secretary, instead of ameliorating the situation, was followed by further harassment of the officers of the High Commission, stoppage of provision of gas to the High Commission Residential Complex and threatening of contractors/staff working in the High Commission". They were harassed, intimidated and their vehicle was blocked, Pakistan said.

The spokesperson pointed out that under the Vienna Convention, the safety and the security of Pakistani diplomats and their families is the responsibility of the Indian Government. In view of such an atmosphere, many families have returned to India.

The Pakistan government has also insisted that "the membership fee and monthly charges of both clubs combined should be equal to the Islamabad Club".
