This includes the Xiaomi Redmi 2 and Redmi 2 Prime, the Redmi 4A, the Redmi Note Prime and Redmi Note 4 / 4G along with the Note 3, the Mi Max and Mi Max 2, as well as the Mi MIX 2, Mi 3, Mi 4, and Mi 5. The sale will be exclusively through Amazon India. The upcoming Redmi 5 is being promoted by Xiaomi on social media as a "Compact Powerhouse", with features such as big display, long battery life, fast processor, slim design, and good selfie camera in focus.

Xiaom has used the hashtag #CompactPowerhouse to promote the device and seeing that the Redmi 5 in China has a 3,300 mAh battery, we could expect the same in the Indian version.

Redmi 5 will be Xiaomi's successor to last year's Redmi 4, which was launched at a starting price of Rs 6,999 going up all the way to Rs 10,999. The 2GB RAM of the Redmi 5 is priced at CNY 799 (approximately Rs 8,100), the 3GB RAM variant is priced at CNY 899 (approximately Rs 9,100) while the 4GB RAM variant is priced at CNY 1,299 (approximately Rs 13,200). The Note series is also better in terms of specifications and thus are priced slightly higher than the Redmi series phones.

Although Xiaomi hasn't officially revealed which device is being launched Wednesday, the upcoming smartphone is in all likelihood the Redmi 5. Like all its previous launches, this one will also be live streamed on Xiaomi's website which incidentally also has a countdown running.

Consumer Prices Show No Signs of Inflation Dangers

The Redmi 5 runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat.
