Pennsylvania school district gives teachers baseball bats to fight attackers
According to Hall, teachers are not expected to use the bats but will have the option to do so if a threat arises.
The teachers received their bats after a training on how to respond to school shootings, Erie News Now reported.
Superintendent William Hall says it cost the district around $1,800 to buy 600 16-inch baseball bats, including some that will be placed in offices and other common areas.

Hall conceded that the bats are largely symbolic, but it gives teachers an option to fight back with.
"It's not about just hiding and waiting", he added. Not only have they all achieved successful entry into their chosen senior schools, both independent and state, we have a record-breaking 19 scholarships and awards.
"All of our students that are enrolled in the 13 high schools in Jefferson County are enrolled in career paths".

The Millcreek School District, which is located near Erie, announced it is arming up to 500 teachers with baseball bats in case of an active shooter, WICU-TV reported.
