Yep, John Oliver Just Bought The 'Cinderella Man' Jockstrap From Russell Crowe's Sydney Auction

John Oliver and Last Week Tonight gang coughed up $7K in the winning bid for that jockstrap Russell Crowe wore in Cinderella Man.

After airing a clip showing a telephone bidder paying a whopping $7,000 for Crowe's jockstrap, Oliver then insisted, "The bad news is we didn't do it".

Oliver discussed the threat to the last Blockbuster store on the show before revealing his purchases.

Sensex stages recovery after falling 300 points in early trade
In Fridays' trading session, FII's sold 399 crores stock in the cash market whereas DII's bought 306 crores worth of stock. At 10am, Sensex was down 0.12% at 34,151.86 points, while the Nifty 50 edged down 0.14% to 10,466 points.

So in an effort to keep one of Blockbuster's last remnants still in business, Oliver suggested displaying some unique movie memorabilia, like Planet Hollywood, to keep it alive as a tourist attraction.

That happened most recently when Russell Crowe held a controversial auction at Sotheby's Australia in Sydney titled "The Art of Divorce". Crowe said he made $3.7 million from over 200 items, including furniture, guitars and movie souvenirs - but the jockstrap may have gotten the most attention.

Oliver addressed "the manager of the only remaining Blockbuster in Anchorage", saying, "Just call us in the next 48 hours, and we will send it to you". "We did though. We absolutely did", he said, moments later.

The HBO show also bought Crowe's director chair from American Gangster, the vest he wore in Les Miserables, and a hood he wore in Robin Hood. Oliver also said the show didn't buy any other items, before again reneging, and showing that Last Week Tonight actually obtained multiple other Crowe-based items at the celebratory divorce auction.

As of this filing on Monday morning, it is not clear if the store has been in touch with Oliver.
